Big Announcement

Today is a sad day in the Ernst house. My baby is growing up!

Grayson got his first tooth today! He’s been a bit fussy the last few nights, and we didn’t really know what was up, but I guess we do now.

I don’t have a picture to show you, he wouldn’t let me take one if we had time tonight anyways.

And on top of G getting a tooth, and probably another one in the next few days, he’s starting to be more mobile. He army crawls EVERY WHERE! And he’s oh so close to crawling it’s not funny.

I hope no one is disappointed by our announcement. It’s kind of big to us.

Date Night - Day 16

Back during our early days while I was still in university and Brian was just starting to work we would set aside one night a week to have a date. Nothing super fancy, usually just coffee or a walk. It was more important to just have a night for the two of us.

We’ve tried to keep date night up since we got married, and as long as Brian has been in town we’ve usually had a date night. Until the NICU and having a new baby at home. But now that things have settled out a bit with me being at work and Gray being a bit bigger we’re back on track with date night.

My sister came over tonight and looked after G for us, and we headed out for coffee. We chatted and planned what we needed for our mini vacation to Ottawa. And for a few moments it was just Brian and I talking and laughing.

It was so great to get out just the two of us and have conversations about more than just what’s for dinner and what’s next on G’s schedule.

I’m also thankful for my new iPhone. It helps me take lots of pictures for my blog. Thanks hunni

Schedule - Day 15

I am the first to admit, I was not looking forward to today. I have heard horror stories about time change and babies. The spring time change wasn’t really a big deal since he was still so young and we were just starting to get his schedule figured out.

Well I was worried for nothing. Although today wasn’t as smooth as normal, it still wasn’t as bad as I had anticipated. Gray woke up at 11 last night, so I took the opportunity to give him some oatmeal and nurse him and put him back to bed. It did the trick. He woke up at his normal 6:30 (new time) and stayed pretty much on schedule for the day (he had an extra nap around 3pm)

I’m thankful for G’s schedule , it was a huge help with adjusting him to the time change.

8:01pm - Day 14

8:01pm is one of my favourite times of day. It’s the time when I get my snuggly baby back instead of the little boy who’s growing up so fast and starting to almost crawl. For just a minute, or sometimes 20, like tonight, I get to just snuggle my sleeping baby. There are nights when I don’t get a chance to snuggle him for too long; there’s laundry or dishes to be done, or Brian and I need to review the budget or menu for the week. And then there are nights like tonight when Brian’s vegging with a friend watching guy movies and I’m on my own for the evening, and I take the extra 20 minutes out of blogging (sorry guys) and decided to snuggle my boy.

I’m thankful for the extra few minutes I get with him some nights to just watch him sleep and pray over him and love on him just a bit more.

Matt - Day 13

Matt has become a great friend over the last few years. The first time I met him I didn’t know what to think of him but that has disappeared and a great friendship has taken its place.
He is also an amazing photographer! He has documented every special occasion in our lives for the past 4 years. Our engagement and wedding, family photos with my family, our pregnancy announcements, maternity shots and of course each and every stage of G’s life.
This past week we headed over to Matt’s for an impromptu photo-shoot of G in his Halloween costumes, and maybe a few of the three of us if time and G allowed.
We got the photos back and all I can say is WOW. I’m not sure how he captures G so well. It’s amazing.
I’m so thankful to have such a great photographer in our lives. But more importantly I’m thankful for the great friend that matt has become.

If you want to see more of Matt’s work or are in the area and want to work with him check out his site.

Orange - Day 12

I’m staring at my fingernails today bright orange, and I don’t mind at all. They don’t look great but they are a reminder to me of all my hard work.
My nails are orange from all the carrots I peeled and cut to make fresh food for G. I love that I know everything that he’s eating and being able to do the little things for him like make his food. Even though it’s a bit of work, it’s so worth it for me.
So today it’s orange fingernails. I’m sure one day they’ll be red from beets too.

Just What I Needed To Hear - Day 11

Ever have that moment when someone says exactly what you needed to hear in the exact moment you needed to hear it. Well this weekend my blogging buddy Jen did just that.

Jen wrote this amazing post about what we’re called to do and where in the line up we come. I so needed to hear this. Lately I’ve been struggling a lot with where I am on the preverbal ‘totem pole’ especially at home. There are days when I’m not sure I can be on the bottom for another minute. And then Jen reminded me that we’re called to put ourselves last. So I check my attitude at the door and change my heart.

Today I especially needed this message, so every moment that I’m feeling blah about my situation, I’m changing my attitude and reminding myself that I’m called to have a servant’s heart and put myself last.

Thanks Jen for such a great reminder.
